Embossing Powder

At my last stampin' up class we used embossing powder. It turned out real cute. So I decided I would try it on my own. WHAT A MESS!

I stamped my image and poured the powder quickly over the ink. Well, to begin with, the powder clumped and all came out in a mess. Then the shiny stuff ended up all over my table. I started to heat it, then remembered to tap away any excess. More of a mess. Then I tapped away excess and started to heat it. When I finished (about 2 min later) I could not tell anything happened. There really is no shine.

The only thing that came of it was shiny red powder all over my table and my hands. I am sure I have some in my hair! All I can say is that I need some help next time I do this because obviously embossing powder is not for me!

On to the next kind of card :)

  1. I feel for you, because I had that problem my first time too.
Are you sure you were using the right kind of ink? If its a fast drying ink, it won't work at all. It will all just blow away.
If you are too close it will all blow away too. Some people like to heat it from underneath and have the powder melt that way.
Good luck on your next try.

  2. Well, I am not sure about the ink. I will try versa-ink tomorrow and see if that works. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. Hi Tammy, make sure you get your stamp nice a juicy and quickly pour the powder. My fave embossing powder is Pearlustre by Stampendous.

  6. I would say your ink probably wasn't wet enough. That could be due to the type of ink. Versa Mark should work, if it doesn't, they have ink especially for embossing that has lots of "juice". I typically have a piece of copy paper that is underneath while I'm putting the powder on. Then I tap the extra away on that paper and then fold it and pour it back in the container (because you can reuse the extra loose bits). I've never heated from underneath. I probably hold it about 6-8 inches away from the paper and it should melt that way.

  7. Ok ladies~ I figured out what went wrong. I used Perfect Pearls. I thought this was embossing powder. Reading on the internet I find it is not. THAT was my mistake. So, I will have to get some powder and try it out. Will buy some at the next stamp camp!
